Keynote Speakers announced for ISI 2012: Nabil R. Adam, and Mark Borkowski!

Nabil R. Adam
Fellow to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security - Infrastructure & Disaster Management Division (IDD), Science & Technology Directorate, Dr. Adam serves as a Branch Chief and manages the Complex Event Modeling, Simulation, and Analysis program initiated in 2008. He is also serving as the National/Interagency Mathematical and Simulation Modeling Technology Advisor on Computational Science & Technology to the National Infrastructure Simulation and Analysis Center. In addition, he serves as the technical lead for the Unified Incident Command & Decision Support System program and
has initiated the Cyber-physical Systems Security initiative. Dr. Adam is a Professor of Computers and Information Systems at Rutgers University; the Founding Director of the Rutgers University Center for Information Management, Integration and Connectivity (CIMIC); and the Director of the information Technology for Emergency mAnageMent (i-TEAM) Research Laboratory. Dr. Adam is one of the Co-founders and past Director of the Meadowlands Environmental Research Institute. Additional research positions held include serving as past Chair of the MSIS Department at RBS.
The DHS Science and Technology Directorate (S&T) Infrastructure Protection and Disaster Management Division (IDD) develops technical solutions, modeling and simulation tools and reach back capabilities to improve federal, state, local, tribal, and private sector preparedness for and response to all-hazards events impacting the U.S. population, critical infrastructure, and economy. IDD also concentrates on developing improved preparedness and response capabilities to protect the nation’s emergency responders in the field.

Mark Borkowski
Assistant Commissioner for the Office of Technology Innovation and Acquisition (OTIA), U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), Department of Homeland Security (DHS). In his role, he is responsible for overseeing the application of technology to CBP's key missions of securing the nation's borders and facilitating lawful trade and travel across the borders. His previous positions within CBP have included Executive Director of the Secure Border Initiative, Executive Director of Mission Support for the Office of Border Patrol, and Director of Asset Management for the Office of
Air and Marine. Prior to CBP, Mr. Borkowski oversaw the development of various programs at NASA in support of lunar exploration. He previously served over 23 years in the Air Force in a variety of roles ranging from engineering at an Air Force Laboratory to staff positions at the Pentagon to Support Group Commander at a large base to System Program Director for a portfolio of major national security satellites.
Mr. Borkowski is a keynote speaker for the conference as well as for the BORDERS workshop, which will showcase the innovative work being done by this DHS Center of Excellence in the area of border security technologies. These workshop sessions will be given on advancements in biometrics; remote sensing of people and vehicles using high temporal resolution; and the AVATAR system for credibility assessment and anomaly detection. I ntelligence and Security Informatics (ISI) research is an interdisciplinary research field involving academic researchers in information technologies, computer science, public policy, bioinformatics, medical informatics, and social and behavior studies as well as local, state, and federal law enforcement and intelligence experts, and information technology industry consultants and practitioners to support counterterrorism and national/international security missions of anticipation, interdiction, prevention, preparedness and response to terrorist acts. The annual IEEE International ISI Conference series (http://www.isiconference.org/) was started in 2003, and the first nine meetings were held in Tucson, AZ (twice); Atlanta, GA; San Diego, CA; New Brunswick, NJ; Taipei, Taiwan; Dallas, TX; Vancouver, Canada; and Beijing, China. Proceedings of these ISI meetings and workshops have been published by IEEE Press and in the Springer Lecture Notes in Computer Science (LNCS) series.
